Sure the below scene might appear a tad Helter Skelter-ish, DON’T be confused, it is actually the fabulously heady and mysteriously magical Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. This band has been all over the place lately, but that doesn’t take away from their enormous talent and endless creativity. This musical collective lead by Alex Ebert produces tracks that are reminiscent of Woodstock’s hippy cult classics. They are wacky, impulsive and freakishly cheerful. These songs by Ebert and his troupe make you want to grab your hemp shoes, festival shorts and head to the nearest open field to dance and frolic. I honestly can’t pick my favorite off From Below so I am going to post a couple. Also an amazing remix of Home. You can get it from a music blog I found off Hype Machine, WILD TONIC for free!

Cheers to the most capricious music out there right now.

LISTEN TO THEM!

    initially reminded me of Polyphonic Spree, but with more soul and dirt

  4. Edward Sharpe is one of my FAVORITE bands. Everytime I hear them I can’t help but feel happy and light. I’m surprised more people don’t know how wonderful they are!

      When I first heard Home it became pretty apparent that that song was going to hit it big, I’ve now heard it in commercials and on a soundtrack for a movie. But the more I hear about them the more I really dislike them. Ebert is a total narcissist and thinks of himself as some kind of Christ like character, and I’m not just saying that because of his beard and white clothing (but come on, can you be more obviously narcissistic?. Edward Sharpe is actually a Messiah like character that he created himself and then fell into the roll of during his recovery from alcoholism. He didn’t see the light, he became the light.

      They’ve got some good tracks, and Home is definately one of the best songs in a long while, but I don’t see these guys going much farther than putting out a few good records. I predict that they’re new found fame will go to Ebert’s head and he will end up self destructing.

        This was my first exposure to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and I loved 40 Day Dream in particular, but then I read this comment and started disliking them for Ebert’s cocky attitude. There are far too many bands that fall into this category, and I agree there will be spontaneous combustion.

        What a short-lived joy I had! Such is life.

        Well, I respect people for their music. Their personal life is up to them. If you are a person who listens to media and believes what you read, that’s find too, I just personally don’t always believe media. For me, I’m strict business and professional, and care only about the work they produce, and I think they are pretty talented. If I had to analyze everyone’s personality, I’d see a flaw in it, so I’d rather observe the music itself.

        @valsdaily Pretty good! Like it!

  7. This is a great band that you would be well advised to see live right away if you have a chance! I broadcast a radio show in Austin, Texas on http://www.kaosradioaustin.org called The Smooth & Demented Show and I can tell the Magnetic Zeros are in a special spot in their bands progress. A place that one may later say “I saw them when …” for bragging rights sake!
    If Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros spins yer wheel there are a few others that will make ya stomp yer dirty foot…..

    I hear a little Dylan in there on the first track.
    Nice I like it.
    I can see where the mainstream will allow this band an inroad.
