The Felice Brothers’ new single, Fire at the Pageant, might be a little disturbing, but in my mind it’s downright haunting. The first time you listen to this song will not be the last, even if it doesn’t wet your pallet the first go around, I bet you listen to it again and maybe even again.
Fire at the Pageant has a folklore funk that I enjoy for both its story and its soulful sound. Spreading their tunes westward from the Catskill mountains, brothers Ian and James and their three band mates play the kind of music you’d want to hear while sitting near a campfire drinking whiskey and coke out of a thermos, it’s raw, earthy and a little bit weird…the whiskey should help you deal with that.
