The Morning Benders have to be one of the more underrated bands out there. I have been shocked by the sheer amount of people who haven’t heard of this Cali based collective. It’s a mystery in one sense because the MB’s tour roster reads as a variable whose-who of the indie scene, they have minced concert dates with the Broken Bells, Grizzly Bear, The Kooks, Death Cab for Cutie, Ra Ra Riot, MGMT, Yeasayer, We are Scientists and Au Revoir Simone. Additionally, the MB’s have a sound that is just all around congenial.
Channelling Brian Wilson’s genius, mixing subtle surf tunes with an ingenuity and cleverness, the Morning Benders are so fresh and so clean, cleannnn. The band’s newest project, “Big Echo”, has to be the most artistically experimental album they’ve released thus far. I think this can be attributed to both the band’s relocation to Brooklyn and Grizzley Bear’s frontman’s, Chris Taylor, production skills. All around the Morning Benders have stepped up their game and it’s one I’ll be looking forward to watching this October at ACL music festival.
